"But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance."

Prayer request for District family in need

District Family,

I was reminded this morning that there is a beautiful truth about being the church in 1 Corinthians 12:26: “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” This verse reminds us that we’re not just a community—we’re a body, deeply connected in Christ. When someone among us is hurting, it’s not something we observe from a distance. It touches us all. Their pain becomes our pain, and their burden becomes ours to help carry. In moments of struggle, what we do matters. A kind word, a thoughtful gesture, a prayerful presence—these are not small things. They are the heartbeat of the church.

I have permission to share with you that one of our own, Pastor Julie Porta and her family, are going through a heartbreaking season with an uncertain future regarding Julie's new grandbaby, Lillian. Julie describes the situation and the family’s need as follows:

Lillian Porta was diagnosed with a very rare genetic disease, infantile Pompe. Patients with the ‘classic infantile’ form of Pompe disease are the most severely affected. Although hardly any symptoms may be apparent at birth, the disease usually presents within the first three months of life with rapidly progressive muscle weakness (‘floppy infants’), diminished muscle tone (hypotonia), respiratory deficiency, and a type of heart disease known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition characterized by abnormal thickening of the walls of the heart (mainly the left chamber and the wall between the left and right chamber) resulting in diminished cardiac function. These problems together culminate in cardio-respiratory failure within the first 2 years of life. She is currently under the care of the MIND Institute at UC Davis. Her current treatment plan is infusions, 5 days a week that can last up to 7 hours each day for the next 5 weeks. The prayer is that the infusion of an enzyme her body is missing, will slow the disease down. The first two weeks of infusions have been to suppress her immune system, and week 3 the enzyme will be introduced.

Prayer requests:

-Pray God's sustaining peace for Sydney and Willem as they navigate this as young first time parents.

-Pray for the Porta family as they navigate what support for all family members looks like

-Pray that Lillian's body would not reject the enzyme treatment

-Pray for Lillian's care team, which is large, that God would give insight and wisdom

-Consider giving to the Go Fund Me to help with the resource needed: https://gofund.me/ab57f46b

(From Pastor Darren) - The family is in need of a place to stay near the Mind Institute near the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to care for their child in between treatments over the next five weeks until space comes available, i.e. - Ronald McDonald House. This could be a rental, an Airbnb, an RV, etc. Because Lillian’s immune system will be compromised, a dedicated space is vital during this time. If you have a lead on such a place, I know the family would be eternally grateful to accept someone’s generosity in this way. Your prayers and generosity are more than appreciated during a time such as this.

In Christ Alone,

Darren Reed
